The baby grows faster and you will be able to see the sex of the baby with an ultrasound. But there are still symptoms and issues that occur during the second trimester of the pregnancy.
Backache – is caused by the extra weight and all the other changes of the body. It can be treated by wearing only comfortable shoes, no high heels, sleeping on the side with w pillow between your legs. While sitting, use a chair that provides good back support and sit up straight. And most importantly, lot of massages. Ask you partner or go to a massage therapist once a week. It helps a lot.
Bleeding gums – this is because of the hormones. They send more blood to the gums, so they become swollen, more sensitive and they bleed. You should use softer toothbrush an gentler when you floss. But do not skip dental hygiene.
Breasts growth – the breasts are not so sensitive like in the first trimester, but they are enlarging big. Start wearing more comfortable bras, with no push-ups.

Headache – it is normal and one of the most common symptoms. But using regular drugs for headaches is not the best option. Aspirin and ibuprofen are not recommended for pregnant women. Consult the doctor on what remedy you should use.
Heartburn and constipation – blame the progesterone. It makes the intestines lazy and influences the esophagus which makes the acids go up from the stomach. Avoid spicy and acidic foods. Take more water and fiber.
Hemorrhoids – these occur because of the increased weight and all the changes. The increased blood flow will make them bleed more. They can be itchy an uncomfortable. Do a proper hygiene wash and ask the doctor for an ointment.
Quickening – this is the baby moving. Some babies start moving during this period, some in the last trimester. Both situations are normal.
Skin changes – the skin is more sensitive than usual because of the hormone changes. It is more prone to sunburns, so don’t expose to sun too much. This is the time when the linea negr and the brown marks on the face appear. They will fade after the pregnancy. If you don’t want them, you can use makeup. Always use moisturizing creams and lotions to soften the skin.
Varicose veins – there is no way to avoid them, but there are things you can do to make it less painful. Popping your legs on a chair while sitting, wear support hoses and take long walks.
Weight gain – you should be gaining 1 pound a week or less during the second trimester. Be careful how much you what and what you eat. Consume more fruits and vegetables and drink a lot of water.
